24th Guard Changing Ceremony at Jubilee House

The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo has on Monday 2 October, 2017 witnessed the 24th Guard changing ceremony at the forecourt of the Flagstaff House.

The Ghana Air Force which took over guard duties from the Ghana Navy would carry out internal patrols, ensure security at the Presidency and the general area for the next three months.

Significantly, guard changing was to ensure alertness and readiness, availability and serviceability of all equipment at all times, assess the strength of soldiers for duty, and ensure maximum security at the duty point and constant fortification of the duty point.

Guard changing is the process involving new guards exchanging duty with the old guards. This is an old tradition inherited from the British during the period of Colonialism. The presidential guard changing at the Flagstaff house is similar to the guard changing ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Instituted on the 5th May, 2013, it is conducted with 20 each of old and new guards from different services/Regiments.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, some Ministers of State, Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt Gen OB Akwa, the Service Chiefs as well as some Senior Officers of the Ghana Armed Forces also witnessed the occasion.

Also in attendance were school pupils drawn from some selected schools within the municipality to acquaint them with some of the activities at the Presidency. It was also intended to inspire them to achieve greater successes in life.
