The Director General (DG) Medical Services of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Brig Gen Ralph Ametepi has commended Col Mercy Yelbert on her retirement as the Director Nursing of the Medical Services of GAF on Thursday, September 28, 2017.
The retirement ceremony which was held in her honour at 37 Military Hospital Officers’ Mess in Accra celebrated her for her achievements and long service in the Medical Corps. She served for thirty four years in GAF as a whole.
Brig Gen Ametepi disclosed that Col Yelbert was a hardworking, disciplined, dedicated and a God fearing woman who was innovative with ideas, always ready for a task given her, went the the extra mile in achieving results and gave a professional touch to all her activities.
The DG thanked her for her meritorious work and wished her well in all her endeavors.
Col Mercy Yelbert was enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces on April 15th 1983 as a Second Lieutenant Nursing Officer and was posted to the 37 Military Hospital in January 1984 to 1986. She was later posted to Ho, Sunyani and Tamale to work for some few years and was later posted back to the 37 Military Hospital.
She has embarked on different peacekeeping missions and rose through the ranks to become the Matron of the hospital. She was made the Director Nursing of the Medical Services of GAF from December 2016 until her retirement in October 2, 2017.
Col Yelbert thanked the DG Medical Services Brig Gen Ametepi, the Commander of the hospital Brig Gen Ernest Crosby Saka, Commander Kumasi Military Hospital Brig Gen Christopher Agbeka , Commanding Officer of the Hospital Col Micheal Yeboah Agyapong and all who in diverse ways encouraged her throughout her career as a nurse.
She therefore entreated all to work hard, be professional in discharging their duties and give the best of care to their patients.
She was presented with a citation and some gifts. Some retired and serving officers together with some civilian nurses were present to witness the occasion.
