PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE AND INTERIOR VISITS THE SQUARE

The Member of Parliament for the Mpraeso Constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, Hon Seth Kwame Acheampong led a 23-member delegation of his Committee on a familiarization visit to The Square.

In a brief, the Chairman of the Committee said the visit was to enable the committee determine the needs of the Ministry of Defence and make recommendations for Parliament to improve their working conditions.

He further stated that it was the primary responsibility of the committee to oversee the Ministry and hence the need to visit and acquaint themselves with its activities and working conditions.

The Minister for Defence, Hon Dominic Nitiwul commended members of the Committee for the visit. He appealed to them to help equip the Ghana Armed Forces in preparedness for any external aggression. He said the military was a major partner in a nation’s development so there was the need for the Committee to project the Ministry.

The Committee was briefed by the Minister on the structure, organisation, role and responsibilities of the Ministry.  The group toured parts of the Ministry.
