The Deputy Minister and Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon Kofi Amankwa-Manu, commissioned the Ministry of Defence’s Gymnasium and Swimming Pool at The Square. The facility was to help provide fitness by boosting the immune system, maintaining mental alertness and physical well-being through exercising.
Hon Amankwa-Manu in his address said this is to provide a place to exercise and also serve as a centre for social activities and the promotion of esprit de corps.
He urged staff of the Ministry to take care of the facility and maintain a high standard by keeping the surroundings clean at all times. Furthermore, he advised the staff to avoid the misuse of the facility and promptly report any damage that may occur.
The Chief Director of MoD, Dr Evans A Dzikum also stated that, the facility will create the opportunity for health awareness through sports and provide an avenue for a variety of fitness activities including swimming and weight lifting. He expressed profound gratitude to all individuals who made the day a fruitful one.
Later, the Minister for Defence, Hon Dominic Nitiwul held an end-of-year durbar at which he commended staff for their exceptional role played over the years. He assured that in 2022, the Ministry will expand the capacity of the hospital by an additional 300 beds for use by members of the Ministry and personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces. He urged everyone to continue to exhibit professionalism in their field of work.
