The Swiss Ambassador to the Republics of Ghana, Togo and Benin, His Excellency Philipp Stalder and three staff members visited the Minister for Defence, Hon Dominic Nitiwul at The Square.

The purpose of their visit was to put in extra measures for a successful partnership that Switzerland has with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and share ideas on what plans have been laid down to promote development of peace in the country.

In his submission, Hon Nitiwul stated that, the KAIPTC is an important institution for training people for peacekeeping missions, cyber security, gender and terrorism issues among others. He added that the Ghana Armed Forces plays a vital role in ensuring peace and stability in the country.

The Minister hinted that the change in the mindset of individuals is key to adherence to the rule of law. Therefore, neighbouring countries challenged by conflicts must change their strategies in training their personnel to help in promoting peace as a way of life. He added that neighbouring countries must respect democratic values and politicians must as well go by the tenets of the rule of law.

HE Philipp Stalder also said, they have plans of sending their military troops to Ghana to understudy peacekeeping operations which is important to them and contributes to regional capacity building.
