The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference held a strategic meeting with the Minister for Defence, Hon Dr Edward Omane Boamah, at The Square. This engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to explore areas of collaboration under the Sahel Peace Initiative (SPI); a regional program aimed at promoting peace, security, and social cohesion across West Africa’s Sahel region.
Director, Governance, Justice and Peace Directorate at the National Catholic Secretariat and Chaplain to Parliament, Very Rev. Fr. Michael K Quaicoe introduced the organization’s capacities and explored potential partnerships to enhance national security efforts.
He emphasised the Church’s commitment to providing structures and systems that contribute to both internal and external security through collaboration. Very Rev. Fr. Quaicoe stated that the Sahel Peace Initiative is aimed at fostering interest and partnerships for shared peace and security objectives.
Addressing the delegation, Hon Dr Omane Boamah stated that the SPI is a good initiative to enhance peacebuilding and safeguard security in the country and in the Sahel region. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s support.
