The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, HE Roey Gilad, together with the Defence Attaché to Africa, Colonel Aviezer Segal, and Deputy Defence Attaché, Major Hod Bass, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Defence, Hon Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, at The Square. The visit was to extend congratulations on the Minister’s appointment and to reaffirm the enduring and fruitful bilateral relations between Ghana and Israel.
Welcoming the delegation, Hon Dr Omane Boamah expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated Ghana’s strong commitment to deepening collaboration with Israel. He emphasised the importance of agricultural cooperation, noting Ghana’s particular interest in tapping into Israeli expertise in rice cultivation. The Minister highlighted that such partnerships could significantly boost domestic rice yields, strengthen food security, and advance sustainable agricultural practices across the country.
Beyond agriculture, the Minister stressed the importance of intensified cooperation in defence and security. He appealed for Israeli support in enhancing Ghana’s defence capabilities through the provision of equipment and the sharing of intelligence, particularly to address evolving security challenges in the region.
He further cited key areas for collaboration, including combating piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, improving maritime security, preventing arms smuggling, and addressing the growing th
reat of terrorism. Dr Omane Boamah noted that strengthening bilateral security ties would enhance Ghana’s capacity to combat terrorism both within its borders and across the West African sub-region.
Hon Dr Boamah also stated government’s initiatives to improve social infrastructure in northern Ghana, aimed at fostering stronger Civil-Military relations and improving community-based intelligence gathering in the fight against extremism.
HE Roey Gilad lauded Ghana’s active role in promoting regional stability and acknowledged the solid foundation of military cooperation between the two nations. He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to working closely with Ghana and expressed Israel’s readiness to share technical expertise and strategic insights to support Ghana’s evolving security priorities
