Brief Profile of Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei

Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei is the Minister for Defence, appointed in August 2026, bringing to the role extensive expertise in national security, governance, and strategic policy leadership. His career reflects a consistent dedication to institutional reform, resilience-building, and the pursuit of peace and stability; values that continue to guide his stewardship of Ghana’s defence sector.

He previously served as Deputy Minister for Defence (2015–2017), where he played a pivotal role in strengthening Ghana’s security architecture, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and advancing reforms that improved operational readiness and institutional resilience. Between February 2025 and August 2026, he held the portfolio of Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, championing policy coherence, sector governance, and climate-resilient infrastructure delivery.  His leadership in that role underscored his commitment to accountability, modernization, and sustainable development principles that continue to shape his approach to defence administration.

As Minister for Defence, he brings to bear a system-driven, risk-awareness perspective to safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity and advancing the welfare of the men and women of the Ghana Armed Forces.  He is committed to reinforcing Ghana’s national security architecture through a comprehensive approach that integrates intelligence coordination, operational readiness, and regional partnerships.

The Honourable Minister holds a Master of Arts in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), an Executive MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).  His background in Peace, Security, and Intelligence Management offers distinct advantages that directly reinforce his appointment as Minister for Defence. His fore knowledge provides both the intellectual framework and the practical tools necessary for modern defence leadership. He embodies a leadership philosophy of service with honour and distinction, positioning Ghana as a credible partner in global defence and security cooperation. His vision is to build an agile, technologically capable, and resilient Armed Forces, strategically prepared to respond to both conventional and asymmetric threats.
