The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has conducted an educational sensitization session for staff of the Ministry to deepen their understanding of Ghana’s social security architecture and long-term pension planning. The outreach formed part of ongoing institutional efforts to demystify pension administration, promote financial literacy within the civil service and equip public sector workers with the knowledge required to prepare effectively for life after retirement.

Leading the discussion, the Public Affairs Officer, Madam Priscilla Zancoh provided an extensive overview of the First-Tier Basic National Social Security scheme, breaking down the operational mechanics governing contribution calculations and terminal benefits. She addressed long-standing misconceptions about pension payouts, clarifying that benefit amounts are anchored directly on an individual’s best three years’ average salary and cumulative contribution months rather than flat administrative assessments.

Madam Zancor further demonstrated how staff could leverage the SSNIT online portal and mobile channels to track their statement of accounts quarterly, detect potential remittance discrepancies early and streamline biometric records through the Ghana Card integration. She urged officers to take personal ownership of their contribution histories throughout their working lives.

The engagement concluded with an interactive session where staff sought clarity between Tier-1 and Tier-2 pensions, survivors’ documentation procedures and mitigation strategies for service gaps.  The Deputy Human Resource Director of the Ministry, Cracious Mawuko Camara expressed profound appreciation to SSNIT for the indepth discussions on pensions and  commended SSNIT for the transparent dialogue, noting that the practical insights shared had transformed retirement planning.
