A four-member delegation led by the United States Ambassador to Ghana, HE Virginia Palmer, the Defence Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Brian Gilbert and the US Embassy Lieutenant Commander, Shaun Collins, paid a courtesy call on the Hon Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, at the Square. The visit was to officially congratulate him on his new appointment and to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral relationship between Ghana and the United States.

Welcoming the delegation, Hon Dr Omane Boamah expressed his appreciation to the United States for its significant logistical support to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), which has been instrumental in maintaining peace and security in the country. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the United States in the areas of defence and security. The Minister also emphasised the urgent need for advanced defence equipment and enhance intelligence-sharing capabilities to effectively counter emerging security threats, particularly those emanating from the Gulf of Guinea and the Sahel Region.

The Hon Minister further noted that with the necessary support from the United States, Ghana would be better positioned to address critical security challenges, including maritime threats and the growing risk of terrorism in the sub-region.

HE Palmer lauded the strong and enduring partnership between the two countries and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Ghana’s security and development efforts. She highlighted the US government’s willingness to deepen cooperation in key areas such as intelligence sharing, air defence systems, and naval operations to enhance Ghana’s overall security architecture.
