The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, visited Alajo to participate in and inspect the beginning of the two-day National General Cleaning exercise. He was accompanied by senior government officials, including the Acting Defence Minister, Hon Dr Cassiel Ato Forson (MP), the Deputy Defence Minister, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, the heads of various security services, the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo. The cleanup exercise was organised to improve public sanitation, clear choked drains and minimise flooding risks within vulnerable communities.

Following his participation in the exercise, President Mahama stated that the substantial volume of work needed to address poor sanitation and clogged drainage systems highlights the necessity for a more regular and longer-term approach. His remarks underscored the need for sustained efforts beyond the immediate two-day campaign to effectively manage municipal waste and infrastructure.

The national exercise also drew active participation from institutional stakeholders across the government. The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr Emmanuel Kartey, senior directors and staff from the Defence and Finance Ministry as well as various security services joined forces to carry out the cleaning up exercise.
