A delegation from the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) Global has paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, at The Square.

The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Sir George Norton (Rtd), is in the country as part of their annual strategic study tour, which aims to analyze Ghana’s defence architecture, regional security dynamics and socio-political landscape.
Later at a briefing session, Hon Brogya Genfi highlighted the enduring defence partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom. He emphasized that hosting institutions of such global repute fosters vital intellectual exchange and strengthens bilateral military diplomacy in an increasingly complex global security environment.

The Deputy Minister provided an overview of the Ministry’s mandate and emphasised strategic initiatives aimed at keeping the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) strong, modern and well-equipped. He stressed that emerging threats in the Sahel and the broader sub-region particularly concerning border security and rising cybersecurity challenges have led the government to adopt proactive and preventive measures.
Beyond external vulnerabilities, Hon Brogya Genfi detailed pressing internal security and national development priorities. He underscored the threat of illegal mining “galamsey” as a critical risk to national security and the environment, alongside the complexities of managing chieftaincy disputes. To build long-term national resilience, he highlighted government policies focused on socio-economic stability, including the implementation of a 24-hour economy framework and initiatives aimed at empowering the youth with technical and vocational skills to boost the national workforce.
The visit concluded with an interactive session where the course participants engaged the Deputy Minister and his principal staff directors in a comprehensive dialogue. Discussions spanned a wide range of topics, including Ghana’s internal security mitigation frameworks, economic policies designed to empower the workforce and security architecture.
