The Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to staff health and well-being by organising a breast cancer awareness and screening exercise for personnel as part of activities to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative sought to educate staff on the dangers of breast cancer, promote early detection and encourage regular screening as vital measures in the fight against the disease.

The Director of Human Resource, Madam Comfort Kyereme, speaking on behalf of the Chief Director, Mr Emmanuel Kartey, said Management recognised the need to take advantage of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month to engage experts to educate staff on the dangers of the disease and the importance of early detection. She emphasised that breast care is important for both men and women, noting that breast cancer could affect both genders. Madam Kyereme further stressed that a healthy workforce is essential to high productivity, adding that the Ministry remains committed to promoting the health and welfare of its staff. She welcomed the medical team from the 37 Military Hospital and expressed appreciation for their support.

Delivering a presentation on breast cancer, Dr Ewura Adjoa Ahimah Nunoo, educated participants on the disease, its possible risk factors, warning signs and preventive measures. She highlighted the importance of early detection and encouraged staff to pay attention to unusual changes in their breasts and seek professional medical advice when necessary. The presentation was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants sought clarification and addressed concerns about the disease.

The educational session was followed by a breast cancer screening exercise, providing an opportunity for personnel to take proactive steps towards safeguarding their health. The exercise underscored the Ministry’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and fostering a healthy workforce, while reinforcing the importance of regular health checks in supporting staff well-being and enhancing productivity.
