The Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Ghana, HE Rolf Olson, has led a delegation on a courtesy call to the Minister for Defence, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, at The Square to reaffirm the enduring bilateral defence and security partnership between both countries. Hon Adjei received the delegation, expressing profound appreciation for US’ consistent backing of the Ghana Armed Forces. He noted that American assistance in logistics, institutional development and peacekeeping capacity has solidified Ghana’s standing as a dependable contributor to United Nations peace operations and broader regional security frameworks.
Highlighting joint operational readiness, Hon Adjei underscored that shared engagements with US Forces have significantly enhanced interoperability and personnel resilience against evolving threats. He emphasized that sustained collaboration and intelligence sharing remain vital for countering regional perils such as piracy, illicit fishing and cross-border trafficking. The Defence Minister commended the US partnership with the Ghana Navy, which included the provision of Defender-class boats to bolster maritime domain awareness, intensify patrols and safeguard vital trade corridors.
Looking ahead, the Hon Adjei called for an expanded scope of bilateral assistance, particularly in technology transfer and cyber defence to counter modern security vulnerabilities. He further stated that he looked forward to the establishment of a specialized drone academy to enhance surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities across critical operational areas.
In response, HE Olson reaffirmed the US government’s steadfast commitment to deepening its strategic alliance with Ghana’s Defence Ministry and Armed Forces. He assured that the US will continue to support Ghana’s democratic stability and peace by bolstering well-equipped security institutions and fostering robust multinational cooperation. Concluding the dialogue, both leaders expressed satisfaction with ongoing joint exercises and training exchanges, pledging to advance collaborative counter-terrorism capacity building and maritime security initiatives across the Gulf of Guinea.
