‎EDGE Group Revives Proposal to Establish Defence Hub for Ghana Armed Forces

‎The United Arab Emirates (UAE) based EDGE Group, has renewed discussions on a proposal to establish a Defence Hub for the Ghana Armed Forces through the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC), in a move aimed at advancing the country’s defence industrialisation agenda.

‎A delegation from EDGE Group paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Defence to gain a better understanding of areas in which it could invest and support the expansion of DIHOC. The initiative is expected to strengthen local defence production, promote technology transfer and enhance the operational capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces.

‎Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Acting Judge Advocate General of the Ministry, Brigadier General Benjamin Amoah-Boakye, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to promoting industrialisation within the Ghana Armed Forces. He noted that strategic partnerships with reputable international defence firms such as EDGE Group would contribute significantly to the development of indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities, enhance self-reliance and support national development objectives.

‎As part of the engagement, the Deputy Director General of the Defence Industries Department, Colonel William Nortey, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC), highlighting its mandate, ongoing projects and future expansion plans.

‎The Director of Business Development International at EDGE Group, Mr Tony Chegwidden, also made a presentation on the range of products and services offered by the company and how they could support the Ghana Armed Forces’ industrialisation drive. He emphasised the importance of understanding the needs of the local market in order to deliver the right products and services that would best meet the operational and strategic requirements of the Ghana Armed Forces.

‎The proposal to establish the Defence Hub was initially presented in May 2025 during the tenure of the late Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah. However, discussions were put on hold following his demise. The latest engagement, therefore, marks a renewed effort by both parties to revive the initiative and advance the strategic partnership.

‎The visit underscored the shared commitment of both Ghana and the UAE-based defence conglomerate to fostering strategic cooperation and building a robust defence industry capable of supporting the operational requirements of the Ghana Armed Forces while contributing to the country’s broader industrialisation agenda.
