The Gambian Defence Minister, Hon Sering Modou Njie paid a courtesy call on the Defence Minister, Hon Dominic Nitiwul at The Square.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the existing ties between Ghana and The Gambia as well as explore areas of security which will benefit both countries. Hon Nitiwul said, both countries’ Armed Forces need to work together to tap from each other’s strength especially in the field of maritime security.
He added that terrorism, piracy and kidnapping threats around the Gulf of Guinea are very alarming; therefore, efforts were being put in place by the Ministry to strengthen security at the country’s borders to protect its citizenry.
Hon Modou Njie expressed delight to cooperate with Ghana to aid in the areas of security and defence to protect the maritime domain, amidst its threat. He added that he is looking forward to solidifying and strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries.
